An axe was found in a teenager’s bag two months before he stabbed a pupil to death at a school in Sheffield.

The 15-year-old stabbed Harvey Willgoose, who was also 15, to death at All Saints Catholic High School in February.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was found guilty of murder at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday following a four-week long trial. Jurors found him guilty by a majority of 11 to one after deliberating for over 14 hours.

It can now be revealed that South Yorkshire Police is carrying out an internal investigation into potential failings by officers in the months leading up to the murder after the schoolboy was found with an axe in his bag two months before it.
