A synagogue in Rutherford, New Jersey, went up in flames early Friday, drawing a response from firefighters across Bergen County before the building collapsed.
No injuries were reported, but police said a rabbi and his family escaped unharmed.
The four-alarm fire began shortly before 3 a.m. at Beth El Chabad in the 100 block of Montross Avenue , authorities said.
ABC-7 reported the building appeared to collapse about an hour after firefighters arrived.
Rutherford Police Chief John R. Russo told the news station a rabbi and his family were the only people inside the structure, and they were able to escape the flames.
Fire officials said the synagogue was destroyed.
In 2012, the same synagogue was firebombed by a man who threw Molotov cocktails at the structure.
