TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) -- After a sluggish start to the 2025 hurricane season, NOAA forecasters are standing by their previous forecast calling for an "above-normal" amount of named storms.

Forecasters are now calling for 13 to 18 named storms, of which five to nine could become hurricanes, including two to five major hurricanes at Category 3 strength and above.

Those numbers include the four tropical storms that formed in the first nine weeks of the season: Andrea, Barry, Chantal and Dexter. Of those storms, only Chantal made landfall in the United States.
