A Pueblo woman who suffered a traumatic brain injury after a drunk driver struck her vehicle in December 2023 was recently awarded more than $1 million in damages during a civil trial.
Christine Sanchez was awarded $1.36 million by a Pueblo County jury after a four-day trial that concluded Aug. 1, according to a news release from the Colorado Springs-based law firm Maher and Maher Law. The verdict included $60,000 in punitive damages.
The jury found that Amrie Mares, the defendant, was driving under the influence on Dec. 9, 2023, with a blood alcohol content of 0.16 – double Colorado’s legal limit of .08.
According to the release, Mares was going 57 miles per hour in a 35-mph zone when she lost control of her vehicle and struck Sanchez’s car at the intersection of West 4th Street and Ab
