Michigan firefighters are in Canada helping fight some of the more than 700 active wildfires in the country, WPBN/WGTU reports .

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has sent multiple crews by helicopter to remote locations in Canada, the report said. Firefighters work 17 to 20 days before returning home.

“Once it gets colder, it will settle down but until they get a handle on it, we’ll be sending people,” DNR resource protection manager Jeff Vasher told the TV station.

So far this year, in Canada, 3.4 million acres have burned in more than 42,000 wildfires, the report said.

Smoke from the wildfires has resulted in intermittent poor air quality in Michigan.
