BEAUFORT, N.C. (WITN) - A man is facing involuntary manslaughter charges following the death of a Beaufort man, according to online court records.

Beaufort police charged James Jones with felony assault, inflicting serious bodily injury, on Monday.

An obituary says Michael Johnson died Wednesday, two weeks after police say he was attacked at a downtown Beaufort bar.

Johnson was at ECU Health Medical Center with severe injuries. Warrants say the 49-year-old man suffered a fractured skull, broken jaw, a brain bleed, a stroke, and was on a ventilator.

Jones is now charged with involuntary manslaughter, according to warrants.
