Baklava pastries containing pistachios are being recalled due to concerns over salmonella contamination. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a recall notice for certain Andalos brand pastries that were distributed in New Brunswick, Ontario, and Quebec, as well as sold online. Most of the affected products were sold at a bakery in Montreal and were served to customers between June 25 and July 26.

This recall is part of a broader investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak linked to pistachios, which have been associated with several recalls in recent weeks. On Tuesday, the Public Health Agency of Canada reported that 52 individuals across Quebec, Ontario, British Columbia, and Manitoba became ill after consuming contaminated pistachios and baked goods containing the nuts. Of those affected, nine people required hospitalization.

The health agency has indicated that more cases of salmonella linked to this outbreak are expected to be reported in the coming months. Salmonella is a bacterial infection that can cause symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. It poses a significant health risk, particularly for vulnerable populations, including children, pregnant individuals, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.

Consumers are advised to check their homes for the recalled products and to avoid consuming them. The CFIA continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates as necessary.
