Two pedestrians were seriously injured Thursday afternoon after being struck by an SUV in the parking lot of Elias Farmers Market in Allentown , city police said.

Allentown Police Captain of Criminal Investigations Division Stephen J. Milkovits said the incident happened at 1:40 p.m. at the market, 101 Tilghman St.

A 71-year-old female driver was operating an Infiniti SUV in the parking lot when she struck the exterior of the market attempting to park, Milkovits said.

The woman then rapidly accelerated in reverse, hitting a parked, unoccupied vehicle, before moving forward through the open parking stall. She then struck two men, ages 53 and 25, who were in the parking lot, Milkovits said.

The driver then crashed into the market a second time, causing more exterior damage, he said.
