PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - West Nile virus cases are being found in more and more mosquitoes, but how much do we know about mosquitoes?

The City of Pittsfield has announced that the Massachusetts Department of Public Health confirmed that West Nile virus (WNV) has been detected in mosquitoes isolated on outer West Street (Lillybrook).

What is West Nile Virus?

WNV is most commonly spread to humans through the bite of an infected mosquito. While the virus can affect individuals of all ages, those over the age of 50 are at greater risk of developing severe illness. The virus is typically found in both urban and rural areas throughout the state.
