The US vice-president has spoken of his love for Kent on a visit to the foreign secretary’s mansion in the county today.

JD Vance met David Lammy at his Grade I-listed country house in Chevening, near Sevenoaks, as he begins his summer holiday with his family in the UK.

Donald Trump’s right-hand man discussed his previous visits to Dover and Canterbury – revealing how he loves this part of the country.

“It is great to be here in Kent again,” Mr Vance told a press conference.

“My wife and I love this area of the UK.

“We were actually here a couple of years ago.

“We went to Dover and the cathedral in Canterbury.

“We love this country – we certainly love this part of the country.”
