WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) -- Governor Laura Kelly has ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff on Monday.

Executive Order #20-30, directs flags to be lowered on all state buildings, grounds, and facilities from sunup to sundown. The order is in honor of Wyandotte County Deputy Elijah Ming, who was killed in the line of duty on July 26, 2025.

Ming was shot while assisting a Kansas City, Kansas, Police Officer with a civil standby at home when a suspect, identified as 38-year-old Shawn Harris, opened fire as they approached the front door. Deputy Ming was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
