TILTON, N.H. —

Police have identified the driver who died when a tractor-trailer went off Interstate 93 in New Hampshire and into a river early Friday morning.

Tilton-Northfield Fire Chief Michael Sitar told WMUR that around 1:45 a.m. they got a report of the tractor-trailer that went off I-93 southbound, past exit 20.

The bridge goes over railroad tracks and the Winnipesaukee River.

New Hampshire State Police said the tractor-trailer driver, who was identified as Benjamin A. Wilson, 48, of Granby, Vermont, failed to negotiate a curve in the road, broke through the center guardrail, went through the median and embankment, across the railroad tracks and into the river.

When first responders got to the scene, they found Wilson dead. They did not find anyone else.
