(FOX40.COM) — An officer was taken to the hospital following an officer-involved shooting early Friday morning, the Modesto Police Department said.

According to police, around 1 a.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting near the 1700 block of Boulder Avenue.

Officers tried to contact a vehicle that matched the description of the suspect vehicle, but the driver allegedly fled, hitting one of the officers.

Then the police department said that "an officer-involved shooting occurred."

According to the police department, the suspect continued to drive away but was later taken into custody.

Police said the officer was taken to a hospital and later released.
