JAMESTOWN – Severe weather struck the Jamestown area again in the early morning hours of Friday, Aug. 8, displacing residents of an apartment building, damaging buildings, causing power outages and downing multiple trees.
Lt. Nick Hardy with the Jamestown Police Department said high winds took the roof off of Spitzer Construction’s building. He also reported multiple trees down.
“It looks like the worst started on top of the hill (in the southwest area) and kind of made its way down into the lower southeast part of town,” he said.
A line of severe winds pushed through the Jamestown area, according to Jeff Schild, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Bismarck. He said Arrowwood National Wildlife Refuge about 30 miles north of Jamestown had a wind gust of 79 mph.
