The future of UK high street stalwart River Island has been determined . A rescue plan was given the green light by high court judges today, sealing the fate of numerous stores as it emerged that the company would have exhausted its cash reserves by early September. ‌

The drastic rescue strategy, designed to salvage the brand and now approved, will result in the closure of 33 out of more than 200 stores in January 2026, rent reductions for 71 stores, and a raft of debts being written off. ‌
