Evansville Area's Most Well-Known Ancient Site

If you went to school around the Evansville area, there is a good chance that at some point in your life, you took a field trip to Angel Mounds .

Angel Mounds is such an incredible place, and it's fascinating to learn the history that surrounds it. The history of the mounds surrounding this area dates back to around 1000-1450 A.D.

From 1000-1450 A.D., the area was the site of a Middle Mississippian culture town where the cultivation and storage of corn allowed a permanent community to persist. The town’s inhabitants left by 1450 A.D. for reasons unknown, although it was possibly due to nutrient-depleted soils or lack of wild game.
