A pickup truck driver died Thursday morning following a chain reaction crash on the New Jersey Turnpike that involved four other vehicles, investigators said.

Shortly before 10:30 a.m. the pickup truck, a tractor-trailer, semi-trailer, van and car were traveling on the Turnpike southbound near milepost 68.2 in East Windsor, according to New Jersey State Police Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron.

The semi-trailer struck the back of the pickup truck and side of the car, Lebron said. The pickup truck then slammed into the back of the tractor trailer, which caused one of its rear wheels to fly off and hit the van.

After coming to a stop, the pickup truck became fully engulfed in flames and the driver was killed, he said.

The pickup truck driver was not identified late Thursday night.
