A vile "lonely" man who raped and killed his ex-fiancé in a "vicious and murderous attack" at a luxury hotel has been jailed for life with a minimum term of 28 years.

James Cartwright, 61, murdered mum-of-two Samantha Mickleburgh, 54, in a five-star Surrey hotel last April after she agreed to stay in a twin room with her ex because she "didn't want him to feel lonely" on his birthday. The victim's heartbroken family branded the murdered an "evil, controlling, manipulative predator".

The monster had called 999 the next morning and claimed he found Samantha dead next to him in the morning, before spinning a larger web of lies around the mother's horror death. It comes after a mum who left work 'abruptly' was then found dead in a hotel room .
