Two people were rushed to hospital this afternoon with 'potentially serious injuries' after a three-car crash on the M6 near Birmingham Airport .

The serious collision happened between J4 and J4A of the northbound carriageway at around 2.28pm.

Paramedics rushed to the scene and found two people, a man and a woman, who had been travelling in one of the cars.

They were treated at the scene for potentially serious injuries before being rushed to hospital.

Two lanes were closed on the major motorway for several hours following the collision.

Drivers were stuck in gridlock traffic following the multi-vehicle crash.
