Have you received a text message claiming you owe money for a radar ticket and threatening license suspension or damage to your credit score? The Manitoulin OPP wants you to know that it’s a scam.
The fraudulent message, which impersonates Service Ontario, falsely claims that you owe money and includes threats such as demerit point loss, license suspension, and credit score damage. It also contains a link to a fake website urging immediate payment.
“This is not a legitimate communication,” the Manitoulin OPP said in a release. “Do not click the link or provide any personal information.”
How to spot a scam, according to the OPP:
