BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) — As paid parking becomes standard downtown, the Bowling Green Police Department warns that parking scams are increasing.

Several ParkMobile signs across the area feature QR codes drivers must scan to pay for parking.

However, scammers have been placing fake QR codes over the originals, leading to fraudulent charges on customers’ cards, BGPD said.

To avoid falling victim, police advise closely inspecting the QR codes. If a code looks raised, crooked, or tampered with, do not scan it.

Most parking signs also offer secure alternatives, such as texting a number or using the official app to pay.

Report any scams or sign tampering to police.
