A key player in the $300 million Feeding Our Future fraud scheme has been sentenced to 28 years in prison.

On Wednesday, a federal judge sentenced 36-year-old Abdiaziz Shafii Farah for his role in the widespread fraud scheme to exploit a federally funded child nutrition program during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Farah was convicted on multiple counts, including money laundering and wire fraud, after a seven-week trial.

Prosecutors say Farah played a leading role in the case, claiming to serve 18 million meals to kids and stealing more than $47 million in federal funds in the process.
