Malik has joined four college football teams. He played in just three high school football games. Strange, but true.

The OSU defensive end has migrated from Western New Mexico, where he redshirted and didn’t play, to Northern Arizona, where he went without a scholarship, to West Georgia, a Division I-AA school where he blossomed, made all-conference and was voted team captain.

Now Charles is at OSU, with two years eligibility remaining and seemingly lots of upside.

Why the nomadic football career? Why the limited time on the high school gridiron? Easy. Charles was trying to avoid his father’s path.
