The Boston police officer accused of lying about a vehicle chase last year that ended in the deaths of three teenagers resigned amid an ongoing investigation by the department.

Triston Champagnie quit July 28, according to the department. More than a year and a half after the fatal crash , the department’s probe is ongoing, and its refusal to turn over records related to the crash to defendants in other cases involving Champagnie has led the district attorney’s office to drop charges in some of those other cases .

A Globe report in April highlighted inconsistencies in Champagnie’s statements about the pursuit .
