Since President Trump signed an executive order bringing back the Presidential Fitness Test to schools across the country on July 31, the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce as well as local school districts are unclear how it will affect current fitness standards for students.

One local school official, Melissa Romero, director of elementary teaching and learning for Sylvania Schools, said she remembers taking the fitness test when she was in school in the 1980s.

Back then, Ms. Romero said, the focus was more about what a student could do physically as opposed to having a holistic understanding of what health is.

Ms. Romero said educators were more concerned about whether a student could do a push-up as opposed to whether they knew how to live a healthy lifestyle.
