Mechanical issues have closed the Savage Park splash pad in central Toledo for the rest of the season, city officials announced Friday.
Construction of a new splash pad will begin this fall and is expected to open next summer, according to a news release.
The facility had been closed for mechanical issues for at least a couple years. It then failed to reopen when a heat wave hit central Toledo in June of 2024.
The city took the first step to redo the splash pad in July when Toledo City Council authorized Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz to enter into a $150,000 contract for the design of a new Savage Park splash pad, with the money coming from the Capital Improvement Fund. The city council then allocated the $1 million from the Local Recovery Fund toward the project.
