COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCBD) -- Just weeks after announcing his bid to unseat Lindsey Graham in the U.S. Senate, former South Carolina Lt. Gov. André Bauer is exiting the race.
Bauer, a Republican, wrote in an Aug. 8 post on social media that he decided to suspend his campaign after "deep prayer and reflection."
"I entered this race with a servant's heart -- believing that our nation needs leaders who are grounded in truth, integrity, and faith," he wrote. "But I believe now, more than ever, that in order for us to truly move forward, we must stop tearing one another down with lies and division."
"I cannot and will not be a part of a political climate that rewards deception over honesty, ambition over unity," he continued.
