SANDPOINT, Idaho — A public health advisory was issued Thursday afternoon for Chuck Slough due to the presence of cyanobacteria, also known as a harmful algal bloom (HAB).

Chuck Slough runs from Pine Street to Highway 2 where it enters Lake Pend Oreille.

Cyanobacteria are naturally occurring aquatic organisms. However, under certain conditions, the bacteria can produce toxins that affect human health and the environment.

The advisory was issued by the Panhandle Health District in collaboration with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare and Idaho Department of Environmental Quality.
