Dare County reports two cases of Vibrio infection, issues guidance on water-related illnesses

In the wake of a WRAL report that a man has been hospitalized on the Outer Banks as the result of a Vibrio vulnificus infection, the Dare County Department of Health and Human Service (DCHHS) is reporting two known cases in the county and providing guidance on how to prevent potentially dangerous recreational water-related illnesses (RWIs).

The first case reported to DCHSS was a Vibrio vulnificus infection that resulted from the individual swimming in the Croatan Sound with a cut on their forearm. That person was hospitalized from July 15-20 and then released.
