Firefighters have slammed reckless members of the public who caused a field fire in South East London yesterday that saw two hectares ablaze. On Thursday, August 7, three fire engines were called to a fire near Whitehall Lane in Erith, where firefighters found around two hectares of grassland alight. The fire is believed to have been started deliberately.

It follows two man-made fires in east London on one of the busiest evenings so far this summer, Monday, July 14. Both believed to have been started deliberately, the worst of them was a fire on parkland near Clarence Road, Dagenham, which required around 125 firefighters to extinguish.
