A trespasser has halted trains across parts of South London this evening (August 12), causing chaos across the network. Network Rail says a person has been on the track near Balham station since 3.15pm, with services likely to be disrupted until 9pm as a result.

Gatwick Express and Southern trains are unable to run to or from London Victoria on any route as a result. Commuters are urged to use London Bridge, St Pancras or Waterloo wherever possible.

Southern services are also not running to or from Watford Junction via Kensington Olympia, whilst Thameslink journeys between Sutton and St Albans City via Mitcham Junction will likely be delayed.

Trains running between Balham and Clapham Junction, and between Sutton and Streatham, may also be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revise
