Alberta’s public health authority is advising members of the public not to swim or wade in an area of Chestermere Lake due to elevated levels of fecal bacteria.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) says elevated levels of fecal bacteria were found through testing the lake water at the Cove Beach location.

It explains that at current levels, gastrointestinal illnesses like vomiting and diarrhea may result from ingestion of the water at Cove Beach.

There is also the possibility of skin, ear, and eye infections with water contact.

The advisory applied only to Cove Beach and doesn’t affect the other beaches on Chestermere Lake, including Anniversary Park, and Sunset Park.
