An elderly person has been displaced after a fire broke out at an apartment in northwest Calgary on Friday afternoon.
The Calgary Fire Department (CFD) says crews were called to a fire at a multi-story apartment building on Varsity Estate View NW around 2:20 p.m.
They arrived to find residents leaving the building and heavy smoke coming from a second floor unit. Firefighters entered the unit and found a fire had started in the kitchen.
Crews were able to put out the fire using an extinguisher, according to CFD.
One elderly person was inside the unit and they were taken to an ambulance outside. No other injuries were reported.
“The fire was isolated to the unit, but the unit was damaged, and the occupant will be displaced,” reads a release from CFD.
