TRAVERSE CITY — Officials say recent cracking observed in a church structure near the FishPass construction site is superficial and does not pose a structural concern.

In an Aug. 8 statement, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Public Affairs Specialist Brandon Hubbard said civil engineers determined the cracks are not structural and modifications have been made to the project to prevent the issue from worsening.

The FishPass project team is working closely with the church and has increased monitoring at the site as a precaution. Construction near the church is nearly complete, and officials said any superficial damage will be addressed once work wraps up.

Any additional impacts to the church will also be resolved according to Hubbard.
