KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- An attorney is speaking out after a Family Dollar store collapsed last month in Kansas City, killing one person and injuring three others.
Attorney Roderick C. White said his client's husband died when the roof of the store collapsed on July 27 on Broadway Boulevard near West 38th Street.
White filed a wrongful death lawsuit earlier this week in Jackson County Circuit Court on behalf of the wife of 69-year-old Larry Banks. Vicky Banks was married to Larry Banks for more than 45 years.
The lawsuit, filed against Family Dollar and the building owner, claims the defendants knew that the roof was at risk of collapsing and that the building was not structurally sound.
