WICHITA, Kan. -- A Kansas trail has been selected for the National Hall of Fame by the Rails to Trails Conservancy.

The organization advocates for the expansion of trails across the US and works to secure funding to support them. Rails to Trails says Flint Hills Trail State Park received an overwhelming 80% vote for the Hall of Fame.

The trail extends 118 miles from Osawatomie to Herington through the heart of the Flint Hills, one of the last remaining tallgrass prairie ecosystems in the world. Along the trail, travelers can visit the Allegawaho Heritage Memorial Park, a 158-acre park that honors the history of the Kaw Nation, as well as the John Brown Memorial Park and Museum State Historic Site. Additionally, they can travel along a portion of the Santa Fe Trail.
