Slim Young was a ‘quiet professional,’ who ‘put the town first’

Reeling from the unexpected death of a town official, the Whiteland community is remembering the man behind the job title.

Shaun “Slim” Young, 47, of Bargersville, died unexpectedly of natural causes July 21. He was the town of Whiteland’s director of operations.

Slim was born in 1977 and graduated from Whiteland Community High School in 1996. While in high school, he started working for David Kelsay Trucking in Whiteland, where he earned the nickname “Slim,” according to his obituary.

He began working for the town of Whiteland in 2010, working up through the ranks as a mechanic, street superintendent, public works coordinator and eventually director of operations in 2023 with his wife, Carmen Young, the town’s director of administration.
