Judge William Hickle is considering whether Quatavia Givens is competent to stand trial after Givens requested a mental evaluation in February.

Givens, who is charged in the killing of 4-year-old Darnell Gray in 2018, had a competency hearing in Cole County Friday, and the court took the cause under advisement. Cole County Prosecuting Attorney Locke Thompson said the judge would likely not release a result of the hearing Friday.

On Aug. 9, 2023, Givens was ruled incompetent and released into the custody of the director of the Missouri Department of Mental Health.

After several hearings — a year and a half later — Givens was declared competent on Jan. 20, 2025.
