AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas’ redistricting standoff rose to a new level Friday as Democrats once again denied a quorum to allow the House to consider the GOP-led plan and Republicans responded by threatening more punitive action.
Republicans in the state House tried again Friday to advance efforts to redraw the state’s congressional maps, producing as many as five more US House seats for Republicans and handing President Donald Trump a major victory ahead of the midterms. But not enough Democrats were in attendance to meet the quorum requirements as dozens were out of the state.
