PORTLAND, Maine — The owner, former property manager, and contractor of a Lewiston apartment building agreed to pay $39,500 in a lawsuit claiming the manager and a contractor sexually harassed a woman living in the building, according to a press release from the Department of Justice.

The department filed the lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maine in June 2024, alleging the defendants made unwanted sexual comments and touched the tenant without her consent from 2019 to 2020.

The case was brought to the department's attention after the tenant filed a complaint with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, which passed the case along to the Justice Department after investigating and issuing a charge of discrimination in violation of the Fair Housing Act.
