PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The city of Phoenix is shutting down one homeowner’s plans to build an oversized casita in his backyard after he obtained city permission to build a two-story structure about two months ago.

His neighbors, who claimed it would be an eyesore, worked together to have that permission revoked. Ultimately, the Phoenix Board of Adjustment unanimously decided to overturn the use permit at Thursday’s hearing.

“It was months and months of a lot of sleepless nights thinking about what’s going to happen,” said Rosanne Schneider, who lives next door to the man wanting to build the casita, Daniel Cummings.
