WHITE PLAINS, New York (WABC) -- An investigation is underway after three people were shot and more than 20 shots were fired in White Plains after a basketball tournament on Thursday night.

It happened on a residential block on Church Street as crowds were dispersing after the annual tournament at Gardella Park.

The crowd had gathered at the park for the semifinals of the Ferris World Ball Tournament.

"As the game broke up, as they were walking up to their cars here on Church Street, one group opened fire on the other," said White Plains Police Commissioner David Chong.

Police say a 24-year-old woman was shot in the shoulder, a 22-year-old woman was shot in the hand and a 21-year-old man was also shot in the hand.

All three people were taken to the hospital and will be OK.
