PRAIRIE VILLAGE, Kan. —

A water main break halted traffic on Friday in Prairie Village, Kansas, and impacts could last into next week.

The Prairie Village Police Department notified drivers of the water main break, advising them to avoid 79th and Mission Road as water pooled onto the roadway. After some investigation, officials determined the break caused “serious damage.”

Police said northbound and southbound traffic on Mission Road would resume shortly. However, 79th Street will remain closed until repairs are finished and it is safe for drivers.

Police said the road may be open sometime next week.
