WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- A 20-year-old man was sentenced Friday to five years in prison for the armed robbery of an elderly man on a Metro train, according to the United States Attorney's Office (USAO) for the District of Columbia.

Kevin Freeman, of Washington, D.C., pleaded guilty in May to one count of robbery while armed. He is ordered to serve a consecutive sentence with the seven and a half years he was given for a separate robbery incident and five years of supervised release.

According to court documents, shortly before 11 p.m. on January 16, Freeman boarded the train and sat across from the 72-year-old victim. He then waited for the other passengers to leave before threatening the man with a knife, demanding money.
