SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. — Sumter County officials are investigating after two bodies were found near a rural road in the county on Friday.

The Sumter County Sheriff's Office said deputies were called to a scene after an area resident reported finding a body in the Rembert area. As deputies were headed to the scene, they were told that there were two bodies.

The victims have not yet been publicly identified, and the deaths are being treated as suspicious. However, the sheriff's office confirmed that both were women.

The sheriff's office said the Coroner's Office will take the bodies to the Medical University of South Carolina for autopsies to determine how the two died.
