MATTOON, Ill. (WCIA) -- The Mattoon Police Department wrapped up a recent speed enforcement campaign with one of the highest numbers of tickets issued reported so far across Central Illinois.
The MPD was among the hundreds of law enforcement agencies across Illinois that participated in the “Speeding Catches Up With You” campaign throughout July. Coordinated by the Illinois Department of Transportation, police agencies intensified enforcement of speed limits with the goal of reducing speed-related fatalities and injuries.
The campaign started just days after the Fourth of July, with Mattoon Police saying officers would focus on Illinois Route 16 and U.S. Route 45.
