PHOENIX — Phoenix firefighters responded to a destructive fire Friday afternoon that has caused significant damage to a building near 35th Avenue and McDowell Road.
The fire was reported at about 1 p.m., and about 60 crew members have been dispatched to keep the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings at the strip mall.
At least one firefighter was taken to the hospital for neck injuries after they were struck by a piece of falling debris. The firefighter was reportedly in stable condition.
The fire has already destroyed much of the building's roof.
Officials have not yet said what may have caused the fire.
