ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The community gathered this morning to bid farewell to Mike Doyle, a beloved teacher, respected journalist, and dedicated volunteer, whose funeral services were held today.

Mike Doyle, who passed away at the age of 76, left a lasting legacy through his work as a journalist and educator.

He spent 25 years at the Rockford Register Star, where he covered the Chicago Bears, before transitioning to teaching journalism at Rock Valley College and Belvidere High Schools.

"Mike was really good about not only teaching his students, but encouraging them. Influencing them. Showing them the big picture and just being our greatest cheerleader," said Paul Arco, a long-time friend and former student of Doyle.
