ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Police have arrested a 20-year-old Rockford man in connection to a Monday night murder at Blackhawk Park.

Police said the 22-year-old victim, later identified as Lewis Brown III, was shot in the 100 block of 15th Avenue at 1:58 a.m. Monday morning.

Brown was alive when police found him at the scene and was rushed to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Investigators said there was an argument that preceded the shooting.

Police said multiple attempts were made to contact the suspect in the shooting, Daniel Chavez-Gerde.

On Friday, August 8th, he turned himself in to the police, authorities said.

Chavez-Gerde faces the charge of First Degree Murder.
