AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Progress continues on a new beef processing plant in east Amarillo with the city issuing a $253 million building permit this week.

Producers Owned Beef announced the facility in 2022 and has been doing dirt work which doesn’t require a permit.

Cattle producers will own shares of the plant to better profit from their beef production and strengthen their links with consumers.

At the announcement, managers said at peak production, the facility will harvest and process 3,000 head of cattle and employ 1,600 people.
